Soprano Rachel Sitomer is a versatile artist, who has earned the praise of audiences and critics alike.  Of her portrayal of Monica in Menotti’s The Medium, (Chelsea Opera, New York, NY), reviewer Parker Woolfe said Ms. Sitomer  “sings and acts with a subtlety that suits the space and the show well.  The relationship between Monica and the mute gypsy boy Toby carries all the emotional weight.” (Chelsea Clinton News)  The Opera Insider Blog said of the same performance, “[T]he lovely soprano, Rachel Sitomer, sang beautifully.”  She has also been recognized for smaller roles as well.  As Papagena in The Magic Flute (Opera AACC, Arnold, MD), the Baltimore Sun noted that she “[brought] zest and comic skill to the role.”

 

Her recent performances include soprano soloist in Bach's Wachet Auf cantata as part of St. Andrew by the Bay Chamber Music Concert Series (Annapolis, MD), Pamina in Mozart's Die Zauberflote with Opera AACC (Arnold, MD), Sister Genevieve in Suor Angelica, and Najade in Ariadne auf Naxos, both with The Singers’ Theater of Washington (Washington DC) in the first two shows of their inaugural season.

 

Other notable roles include Gilda (Rigoletto) with the Baltimore/Washington Metropolitan Repertory Opera, Zerlina (Don Giovanni) with the Repertory Opera Theatre of Washington, First Witch (Dido and Aeneas) with Opera AACC and Sister Rose (Dead Man Walking) with the Bucknell University Opera Company. 

Dedicated to bringing the joy of opera to a wider population, Ms. Sitomer is on the roster of the DC Metro chapter of Opera on Tap (www.operaontap.org/dcmetro/), performing opera and musical theater repertoire in restaurants and bars in Washington DC.  She has also participated in opera outreach performances with The Opera Company of Brooklyn, as Papagena in The Magic Flute, and with Opera AACC, as Hansel in Hansel and Gretel, introducing hundreds of elementary school children to this art.

 

Outside of performing, Ms. Sitomer maintains a violin and voice studio, teaching students ranging in age from five to adult.  She is also the music director at St. Andrew by the Bay Roman Catholic Church in Annapolis, MD.
